The Beauty Edit: Splurge…..or save?
I love beautiful things.
A gorgeous cream in a glass jar.
A serum that feels like silk.
A toner that promises transformation.
But here’s what I’ve discovered after all these years….sometimes the real luxury is knowing when to save.
Not everything needs to be a splurge.
And not every drugstore find is “less than.”
Some are the real deal.
Two I’ve just been turned on to:
When beauty pro Jenny Simon sends you a text that says “Get this. My skin is so soft” I get it. Pronto. I love it and can already feel the difference.
Amlactin Cream
If your skin feels dull, dry, or just a little tired - this works. It gently exfoliates while deeply moisturizing. Not glamorous. Not trendy. Just effective. And sometimes effectiveness is the ultimate luxury.
I heard about this stuff from Alee, a fabulouse make up pro at Pout Studio
Thayers Milky Toner
Soft. Hydrating. Calm. It feels far more expensive than it is. Perfect for layering under serums or using on a no-makeup day when you just want your skin to feel fresh and cared for.
On the flip side, I’ve been using a shampoo and conditioner duo that was given to me in a goody bag. It’s a grocery store brand and it has not been doing me any favors. I am returning to my beloved Olaplex. At $68 for this trio, it’s a splurge. But it delivers.
So here’s what I’ve learned:
Splurge when the experience matters- or the product really delivers.
Save when the formula performs.
What’s your favorite “save” that performs like a splurge?
