Slow Cooker Chunky Cinnamon Applesauce
Who doesn’t love the scent of apples and cinnamon filling the kitchen? This slow cooker chunky cinnamon applesauce is one of those simple recipes that makes you - and your home - feel ready for fall.
I love making applesauce in the slow cooker because there's almost no hands-on work. Toss everything into the crockpot and by the end of the day you have a gorgeous applesauce with chunks of tender apple throughout.
Spoon it over pancakes or waffles, swirl it into oatmeal or yogurt, serve it alongside pork chops or roasted chicken, or eat it warm with a spoon while it's fresh from the slow cooker.
The best applesauce comes from combining a few varieties of apples. Honeycrisp adds sweetness, Fuji adds rich flavor, and Granny Smith brings just enough tartness to keep everything balanced.
I make this recipe year after year. I hope you will, too.
Slow Cooker Chunky Cinnamon Applesauce
Serves: 8
4 pounds apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, Granny Smith, or a combination), peeled, cored and quartered (8-12 depending on size)
½ cup apple cider
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
¼ cup brown sugar or pure maple syrup, or more or less to taste
Place the apples into a slow cooker.
Add the apple cider and lemon juice.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and add the brown sugar or maple syrup.
Stir gently to coat the apples.
Cover and cook on Low for 6–8 hours or High for 3–4 hours, until the apples are very tender.
Using a wooden spoon, gently mash the apples, leaving plenty of chunks for a rustic texture.
Taste and adjust sweetness or cinnamon if desired.
Serve warm or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week.
Amy's Table Tip: Freeze extra applesauce in one-cup containers for easy breakfasts, baking recipes, or quick side dishes all season long.
