GBOMBS!

I shared one of my favorite ways to remember what we need to get into our diet every day at Amy’s Table LIVE last night. It’s GBOMBS! This mnemonic device comes from Dr. Fuhrman, who was a guest on Amy’s Table several times.

What’s GBOMBS?

It’s a simple reminder to get Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries and Seeds into your diet each day.

One of the questions last night was “what do onions do for you?” Shout out to google for this answer:

Onions work by releasing sulfur compounds, like allicin, when chopped, which irritate eyes but offer antioxidant and potential anti-cancer benefits due to compounds like quercetin and s-propenylcysteine (SPCs) that support immunity and reduce inflammation.

I also shared my love for a menu item I used to order at the now closed Maribelle’s. It was a dish of eggs, beets, feta and arugula. It is one of two go to breakfasts I make to start chipping away at my GBOMBS.

Use this as a suggestion, since there is so much room for changing things up;

Beat two eggs with 1 tablespoon of water and a tablespoon of minced fresh dill (or 1 tsp dry) and salt and pepper to taste. Pour the mix into a non-stick skillet coated with cooking spray. Cook low and slow until the mixture is set- don’t stir but do lift the edges to allow uncooked egg to flow under the set egg. Once it’s set, slide it onto a plate or a low pasta bowl and scatter some feta over top. Add chopped or sliced or shoestring beets, pickled red onions and a healthy handful of argula (which you can dress with a little oil and vinegar if desired)

BAM- it’s only breakfast and I’ve knocked off Greens and Onions- and gotten a nice chunk of protein taken care of, too. Add a side off chia seed pudding topped with berries and Berries and Seeds are checked off, too. Now it’s on to mushrooms which are easy to add somewhere else in the day.
