Pairing steak and wine
While there is no “right” choice when pairing wine and food, is there anything better than sitting down to a great Certified Angus Beef brand steak and a glass of good red wine? The main goal in food and wine pairing is that the food and wine should be better together than they are alone.
If you’re doing a simple grilled steak, pair it with a full-bodied wine like a Cabernet Sauvignon from California, Australia or Chile. The tannins in the wine combine with the protein to create a lush, flavorful taste. If you’re adding a barbecue sauce to your steak, pour a chianti. The high acid content in Chianti works with red sauces (think spaghetti and meat balls) and barbecue sauce. If you plan to make a spicy steak, such as steak au poivre, match it with a spicy wine like a full bodied, peppery Zinfandel.
