How to toast nuts
How do you take a healthy salad and turn it into a nutritional powerhouse? By adding nuts. Nuts are a superfood, not just because they pack a nutritional punch, but because they couldn’t be easier to use. Nuts are high in calcium, folic acid, magnesium, potassium, vitamin E and fiber. Some studies say eating an ounce of nuts each day can reduce the risk of heart disease.
I like to toast the nuts before tossing them in my salad. You can toast them in the oven or in a skillet. To toast them in the oven, spread the nuts in a single layer on a baking sheet and toast them at 400 degrees for about 7-10 minutes. Don’t walk away, though, because they can go from golden brown to over done. You want to shake the baking sheet once or twice during baking. You can also toast them in a dry skillet over medium high heat for about 5-7 minutes, again, shake the skillet occasionally.
Here’s one of my favorite ways to add nuts to salad, Toss Dole Baby Spinach with Citrus Dressing, snow peas, toasted pecans, and Mandarin oranges. You can find more salad inspirations like this on each Dole salad package. For more great recipes and tips visitDole.com
