Grammy’s Date Nut Bread
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 50-60 minutes
Total Time: 1 1/2 hours
This was a treat that my Grammy made each Thanksgiving. It’s absolutely essential that it be made 1-2 days in advance. Let cool completely than wrap tightly with plastic wrap then foil. It freezes beautifully.
Preheat oven to 350 F.
In a medium bowl combine the dates, boiling water and butter; let cool.
Stir in 1 cup sugar, beaten egg and vanilla.
In a large bowl sift together remaining dry ingredients.; add to date mixture, stirring just to combine.
Add nuts; stir just combine.
Pour into sprayed or buttered loaf pan.
Bake 50 to 60 minutes.
Turn out onto cooling rack to cool.
Serve slices spread with butter.
1 generous cup dates, roughly chopped
1 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup chopped nuts
