Bake Sales Tips from Gretchen Holt-Witt, founder of Cookies for Kids Cancer
Gretchen Holt-Witt’s life changed instantly in 2007 when her 2 ½ year old son Liam was diagnosed with pediatric cancer. Armed with a mom’s mission to raise funds for her son and thousands of other children, Gretchen set the lofty goal of selling more than 96,000 cookies. That first bake-sale brought in more than $420,000.
After that bake-sale success, requests for more cookies along with offers to help started pouring in. Gretchen and her husband Larry started the national non-profit Cookies For Kids’ Cancer to help others raise funds for the cause, and they have inspired fundraisers all over the country. Check out the recipes - I hope it inspires you to host your own bake sale!
Now everyone can chip in with the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer: Best Bake-Sale Cookbook which offers recipes for bake-sale favorites, from cookies to brownies to cupcakes. The book also brings together dozens of stories inspiring stories from other bake-sales, and offers tips so anyone can hold a mega-successful bake-sale of their own. All proceeds go directly to Cookies For Kids’ Cancer.
About Gretchen: The founder of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, Gretchen found her “home” working with a wide-range of housewares brands, including Hamilton Beech/Proctor-Silex, Chicago Cutlery, Circulon, Anolon, and KitchenAid Cookware, and is now the director of public relations strategies for OXO in New York City. In 2007, her career achievements took a back seat when her son Liam was diagnosed with pediatric cancer. Committed to doing all she could to bring attention to a need many people aren’t aware of, she and her husband founded Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, raising millions of dollars to date. Witt was named one of Women’s Day magazine’s 50 “Women Who Are Changing the World” in January 2010 and was honored by Traditional Home magazine at the 2010 Classic Woman Awards.
