Create a welcoming color scheme
Perk up your home’s entry with color!
Start with a color scheme: If you don’t know where to start, here’s a never-fail way to create a compelling color scheme. Use 3 colors. Choose your favorite color on the color wheel, and use it and the color on either side of it. Like a little more contrast? Choose your favorite
color on the color wheel, then use the one directly opposite it. One of the two must dominate- don’t try to let them have equal presence or it will feel tense and make your eye search for which to give your attention to.
Use color to create a mood: If you want your porch to be a conversation spot, use warm colors like yellow, orange and red. You’d be amazed at what even a tiny amount of red will do for adding energy to your porch. These same colors create a welcoming feel for your porch or front entrance. If you’re looking to add a calm oasis, perfect for relaxing and quiet entertaining, go with soothing colors like blue, purple or green.
Use color to complement the architecture of your home: Certain colors are traditionally used with certain architectural styles. Arts and Crafts homes look great with rose, green, beige and deep blue while Colonial’s shine in red, green, browns and yellows.
