Whether it’s your back door, front door or garage door, any entry way is a transition between the outside world and your private haven. It gets a lot of traffic and you need it to do several things
1. You want to create a good impression for guests
2. You want to make it welcoming for you and your family
3. You want it to earn its keep by working for your lifestyle
5 things your most used entryway should have:
1. A place for things to land, like keys, cell phones, wallets, mail
2. A place to hang coats
3. A place for scarves, hats, gloves
4. A place for boots and shoes
5. A place to sit
Keys: can be in a plate, a bowl, a basket, on a hook or in a decorative key cabinet.
We all have lots more keys to organize: car, home, office, a neighbors’ house, a second home. Organize them with colored tags that can be labeled. Consider a 2nd set of spare keys in a more remote location. Easy to do and avoid BIG headaches if the original set is ever misplaced.
Coats: If you have a closet, consider investing in matching hangers for a high end look and feel. Hang long coats on one side and short on the other so that you can make use of the space below the short jackets.
Coats, hats and gloves can go in a basket on a closet shelf, and boots and shoes can be stored on the floor, in that space created by hanging the short coats together.
If you don’t have a closet, consider an armoire, decorative hooks or pegs, and a storage bench.
A bench is great way to add design and comfort to your entry way.
